Adelaide (Australia)

Adelaide (Adelaide in English) and Adelaide (purists do not place emphasis acute on e) (1 138 800 inhabitants for the suburbs) is by its population, the fifth city in Australia and the capital of the South Australia. It is a coastal city located on the east shore of the Gulf Saint Vincent in the plains of Adelaide, north of the Fleurieu Peninsula, west of the Mount Lofty chain which culminates approximately 700 metres.
Before the arrival of Europeans, the region was occupied by aboriginal people Kaurnas.
The city owes its name to Queen Adelaide, the queen consort wife of King William IV and it was created in 1836 to n'accueillir unlike the other Australian colonies that British free. According to legend, said that Colonel William Light, one of the founders of the city, who conceived plans and to choose the location near the River Torrens. Next conceptions of William Penn, Light conceived plans of a city within a square mesh with wide boulevards and large public parks, all surrounded by large green spaces. City have practiced very early religious freedom, the city now bears the name of "City of Churches." Adelaide is especially famous for its many festivals, sports teams and its wines.
Capital of the state, the city houses the seat of government and many shopping malls but also many governmental and financial institutions. Most of them are found in the city centre and in particular around the boulevard of North Terrace and the streets of King William IV.
